Health and Hygiene

We believe that true women’s empowerment begins with good health and hygiene. Our mission is to educate and support women and girls in rural Rajasthan, focusing on essential aspects like sanitary pad distribution, Women’s safety awareness, reproductive and menstrual health and maternal health during pregnancy. In the Udaipur district alone, we’ve distributed thousands of sanitary pads and awareness guides over the past four years, reaching women and girls who otherwise lack access to these vital resources. NGOs like ours play a critical role in improving health and hygiene among women, particularly in underserved areas. We conduct awareness drives and workshops to educate women about menstrual hygiene, dispelling myths and providing accurate information. This is crucial because, according to recent statistics, many women in Rajasthan still face challenges in accessing sanitary products and reliable information on menstrual health. This lack of access can lead to infections and other health issues, significantly impacting their well-being and daily lives. In addition to menstrual health, we focus on reproductive health and safety awareness. We provide information and resources on family planning, safe practices and the importance of regular health check-ups. During pregnancy, maternal health becomes a priority and we work to ensure that expecting mothers have the knowledge and nutritious food they need for a safe and healthy pregnancy.
In Rajasthan, where traditional beliefs and limited access to resources often hinder women’s health, our work is vital. Many women still rely on unsafe methods during menstruation, which can lead to severe health consequences. By providing sanitary pads and educating them on their use, we are helping to break the cycle of poor menstrual hygiene. Our efforts in safety awareness have also empowered women to protect themselves from various risks and understand their rights.

Awareness Campaigns

Critical issues such as early marriage, gender-based violence and discrimination are in public knowledge. Many NGOs are working in these domains in their areas. However, our efforts in the Udaipur district over the past five years have made a significant impact. We’ve conducted hundreds of awareness drives, engaged with numerous women and successfully intervened to prevent multiple child marriages, ensuring a safer and more informed community. Organisations like ours play a crucial role in awareness campaigns for women’s empowerment. We work tirelessly to educate communities about the dangers and legal implications of early marriage, the devastating effects of gender-based violence and the pervasive issue of discrimination. Our approach includes workshops, street plays, and one-on-one discussions, aiming to create a supportive environment where women feel empowered to voice their concerns and seek help.
Across India, NGOs have launched widespread campaigns, provided safe spaces for victims, and collaborated with local authorities to enforce laws protecting women’s rights. In Rajasthan, the situation remains challenging, with many women still facing early marriage, domestic abuse, and discrimination. Recent statistics highlight that a significant percentage of girls are married before the legal age and gender-based violence continues to be a serious problem. Our awareness campaigns are not just about spreading information; they are about changing mindsets and breaking down the barriers that perpetuate these harmful practices.

Access to Technology

The transformative power of technology in the lives of women and girls in very potent. Over the past three years, we’ve equipped 50 women and young girls in Udaipur’s rural areas with the skills to use computers, smartphones, and the internet. This training has opened up new avenues for education, employment and entrepreneurship, empowering them to explore opportunities that were once beyond their reach. NGOs like ours play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide, especially for women in underserved communities. By providing access to technology, we enable them to learn new skills, stay informed about job opportunities, understand government policies and familiarise themselves with women’s laws. This access is not just about gadgets; it’s about giving women the tools to transform their lives and take charge of their futures. In Rajasthan, where many women still lack access to technology, our work is making a significant difference. Recent statistics show that women with access to digital resources are more likely to find employment and engage in entrepreneurial activities, significantly improving their socio-economic status. At Aakriti, our goal is to continue expanding these opportunities, ensuring that every woman has the chance to harness the power of technology. Whether it’s for education, business, or staying informed, we believe that access to technology is a key component of women’s empowerment.

Sustainable Practices & Skill Development

Empowering women through sustainable practices and skill development is at the heart of Aakriti NGO’s mission. We’ve seen firsthand how training in skills like sewing, upcycling, glass bottle art and entrepreneurship can transform lives. Over the past two years, we’ve reached 250 women and young girls in rural Udaipur, providing them with the tools and knowledge to not only secure employment but also lead eco-friendly, healthy lives. NGOs play a crucial role in this area by offering training in sustainable agricultural practices, waste management, the use of organic products and making eco-friendly crafts. By doing so, we help women create livelihoods that respect the environment and promote a greener way of living. This is particularly important in regions like Rajasthan, where sustainable practices are vital due to the harsh climatic conditions and limited resources.
Across the state, there has been a growing interest in sustainable practices and skill development. Recent statistics indicate an increase in women’s participation in eco-friendly businesses and sustainable farming. This shift not only provides them with income but also develops a sense of community and environmental stewardship. We are proud to contribute to this movement. Our training programs aim to equip women with the skills needed to start their own businesses, promote sustainable living and manage resources responsibly.

Adult Education

We have already seen the life changing power of education for women and girls, regardless of their age. Over the past five years, we’ve reached 500 women and young girls in Udaipur’s rural areas by providing them adult education and literacy programs. These initiatives are crucial for those who missed out on formal education or never had the opportunity to attend school. Through expert videos and dedicated volunteers, we help them acquire essential skills, from basic reading and writing to understanding their rights and applying them in daily life. Organizations like ours play a vital role in offering adult and sex education, breaking down social taboos that often hold women back. In many parts of Rajasthan, societal norms and misconceptions can severely restrict women’s lives, from limiting their educational opportunities to enforcing harmful practices. By providing accurate information and education, we have empowered women to make informed decisions about their health, relationships, and futures.
The impact of these programs is significant. Recent statistics show a growing awareness of adult education and a gradual shift in attitudes towards social taboos. More women are seeking education and gaining confidence to challenge restrictive norms. This change not only benefits them but also their families and communities which develops a more inclusive and progressive society.
